MSNBC - 9%2F11 report light on ID theft issues

"what good are traveler databases and terrorist watch lists? After all, they are easily foiled by impersonation.

But in the nation's most comprehensive look yet at what went wrong on Sept. 11., and what can be done to prevent the next terrorist attack, identity theft gets scarce mention. NPR : Tips to Avoid Internet Identity Theft, E-Mail Scams: "Criminals around the world are stealing credit card numbers, bank account passwords and other sensitive information in greater numbers than ever before. This article talks about email phishing (where thieves randomly attempt to obtain account numbers and passwords).

This article also includes a link to an audio session of NPR about ID Theft.

deseretnews.com | Big-time theft: "It wasn't hard to attract cyberthieves either, with databases that amass credit card numbers in huge numbers.

The theft earlier this year of thousands of credit card records from the nation's third-largest warehouse club illustrates the potential for massive-scale identity theft whenever so much purchase-enabling information is stored in one place. It also illustrates how difficult the cleanup can be."

Even when we keep our information safe, someone else might not!
